Dwayne: You know what? F*ck beauty contests. Life is one f*cking beauty contest after another. School, then college, then work... F*ck that. And f*ck the Air Force Academy. If I want to fly, I'll find a way to fly. You do what you love, and f*ck the rest.
This quote is said by Dwayne to Richard, obviously it is said in quite a negative, evident by all the swearing happening in the quote. He makes this observation quite late in the film. I know that Beauty Contests aren't always a life event everyone experiences but the point he tries to make is that failure is inevitably and if you fail like Olive did in her contest (giving it her all, oblivious to the fact that she’s out of place and pretty much doomed to fail), it only matters if you fail trying and believing that hey could win. Olive is so other whelmed in simply performing that she doesn't care about winning or failing but simply trying.

Olive: Grandpa , am I pretty
Grandpa: You are the most beautiful girl in the world
Olive: you're just saying that
Grandpa: No I'm madly in love with you and its not because of your brains or your personality.
Edwin trying to comfort his granddaughter the day before the little miss sunshine competition.
This quote talks about how girls value there body type and look more than anything else. In this scene were Edwin is trying to comfort his granddaughter, she Is very concerned that she will not win the competition but her grandpa thinks differently. In this scene of the film the grandpa is the one who is making Olive believe in herself by telling her that she is more beautiful than any girl in her pageant. In this time frame many beauty contests were held in America to only view girls and many women there beauty.
Many contests like these are not held now because they were a very bad way of viewing women.
